Named in honor of Major Gen. C harles Gould Morton, class of
1883, U. S. Military Academy, who served in th-American
War. Commissioned in 1944.
General J. C. Breckinridge (T-AP-176)
The ship was named for James Carson Breckinridge. U.S.M.C., and
placed in commission in 1945. Built by Federal
Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company, Kearny, New Jersey. The
Breckinridge was part of the Military Sea Transportation Service
fleet transports troops and dependents. Ship dimensions:
622 feet long, 75 feet wide and displace 19,650 tons.
