The ship was built in Alameda, Calif., in 1944 Admiral class P-2 ship Admiral Hugh Roadman (AP-126). She was reacquired by the Navy from the Army Transport Service as General Maurice Rose March 1950 and assigned to Military Sea Transportation Service.
